Elegant brunch at Patisserie Rhubarbe

I already reported on the decadent pastries from this little gem in a previous post.

Now, the pastry shop was so successful I guess that it moved around the corner onto rue Laurier in a bigger space. The good news is that they turned the old location (5091 de Lanaudière) into a Comptoir where you can have brunch Saturdays and Sundays. So of course, I had to give it a try…

Not surprisingly, their plates were as refined and elegant as their pastries … We tried two small dishes of poached eggs. One over a salad with feta and another one over a corn bed…

For both, the quality, freshness and taste of the ingredients didn’t disappoint but the portions were pretty small. I definitely needed a desert and so I tried their cake with strawberries and cream. This unfortunately wasn’t as good as expected (the cake was a little dry and overall not that interesting) and considering how AMAZING the pastries are here normally it was a bit of a miss.

All in all, we had a good, cosy and tasty brunch, but it is definitely not made for big eaters. I also feel personally that I’d rather spend my money on their elaborate pastries than on their brunch plates.

So yes Rhubarbe, I still love you but I will probably switch to visit you at your Laurier location to buy pastries again next time.
